Dr. Ralph C. Smedley established the first Toastmasters club in Santa Ana, CA on October 22, 1924. Dr. Smedley developed Toastmasters as a way of helping other people to speak more effectively. Toastmasters International was incorporated under California law on December 19, 1932.
The Spring Conference is in Lubbock
The District 44 Spring Conference is in Lubbock this year on May 2-3. The conference registration form can be downloaded from the district website (www.District-44.org) or right here: Conference Registration Form.

It's been a while since we've updated the site, but we're back with a bang!
For the second year in a row, a Downtown Toastmasters member has won the District 44 Evaluation contest. Tracy won the contest on Saturday, Nov 3rd, in Odessa, TX at the Fall Conference. As you all remember, Tim won the District 44 Evaluation contest in 2006.
Who's next? Let's go for 3 in a row!
As a side note, Tracy also received the Area Governor of the Year award for the 2006-2007 Toastmasters year after helping Area 6 become a Select Distinguished Area.

At his current pace, Tim may be looking for volunteers to help him build a new trophy case to house all his Toastmasters trophies.
After winning the District 44 Evaluation contest in the fall, Tim won the District 44 Tall Tales contest on Saturday in Abilene with his speech, "The Tail is the Tale".

Tim won 2nd place at the North Division Tall Tales contest in Amarillo on April 14th. He moves on to the district contest on April 28th. The top 2 places from each division compete at the district level.
At the Area 6 contest on Saturday, March 24th, Tim and Joe won the area contests for Tall Tales and International Speech, respectively. They now move on to the Division contest in Amarillo on April 14th.
The Division N contest will be at 2pm in the Amarillo Library SW Branch at 6801 W. 45th (map below). Contestants should show up 30 minutes early ... that's you Tim & Joe!
If you get a chance, please run up to Amarillo for the day and see them compete.
The International Speech and Tall Tales contests for Areas 5 and 6 will
take place on Saturday, March 24th at the Lubbock Power & Light
Operations Center at 404 Municipal Drive (see map below & photo of
the building). The contest will begin at 1pm.
Contestants and judges should arrive at 12:30pm for the briefing by the Chief Judge.
Come
out and see the Downtown club's winners face off against the winners
from the other Area 6 clubs. And get a preview of the Division N
contest by watching the Area 5 contestants compete.

Tim faced off against some of District 44's best evaluators in the District Evaluation Contest today at the Fall Conference. His impressive performance won him the first place trophy! Congratulations Tim!
Another congratulation goes out to Tim for his second place finish at
the Division N Evaluation Contest! Tim placed 1st in the club
and area contests. His
second place finish sends him to Amarillo on the 21st to compete in the
District 44 Evaluation contest.

Next
up for Tim is the Division contest in Canyon, TX at the West Texas
A&M Dining Hall. This takes place on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at
11am. The doors open at 10:30am and contestants are asked to arrive
between 10:30 and 10:45. If you want to eat after the contest, the
WTA&M Dining Hall will be serving a brunch for $5.40 per person.
Pat, Leslie and Kendra are all leaving Lubbock (not together). We wish them well and hope they'll visit us from time to time!
