Meeting January 30th, 2013

Steve presided over the meeting this week as Toastmaster.

The theme of the day is "When I Survey the Skies..." The attendance was a little thin this week, but stopping the meeting because that would be futile.

Gary spoke first this week. His speech "Are you?" asked us all if we were ready for our next vacation. Gary pointed out that the little things in a trip that make the experience worth while.

Darrell talked to us about love languages. We all have some, but he recently discovered how it can help communications with his son.

Meeting January 23rd, 2013

This week, Larissa lead the meeting as Toastmaster. With Larissa in charge, we knew the tone of the meeting would be the complete opposite of belligerent. However, our Grammarian, Colton, introduced the word belligerent as the Word of the Day. It made for a more playfully fun meeting than normal.

Julian spoke first. His speech "Emotional Intelligence" came from the Competent Communicator manual, project Research Your Topic. Emotional Intelligence is an interest of Julian's and he shared his year long journey to increase his.

For our second speech, Robyne accepted an award from the "Worthy Others." While Robyne is very worth of an award, this was actually the Accepting an Award project from the Special Occasions Speeches manual. She accepted the award with grace and poise.

Meeting January 16th, 2013

This week, Andy was our Toastmaster and one of our speakers. This allowed Andy to recapitulate points from his own speech during the rest of the meeting.

The theme for the week, "What New Year's Resolutions?", rang true to the speeches. Sometimes, everything comes together under the theme of the day, and this was one of those times.

Larissa spoke from the Competent Communicator manual project Getting Comfortable with Visual aids. In her speech, entitled "A Walk to Emmaus", she talked about how she found direction in her faith through a retreat and eventually was able to give back in the same way.

Andy's had his speech topic picked out before he even saw the theme of the day, but it fit right in. Entitled, "Resolution, Schmeshalution", Andy inspired us to think about how we can make ourselves accountable to the resolutions we make.

Meeting January 9th, 2013

Toastmaster this week - Julian

Welcome to the first meeting of the new year!

The theme for this week's meeting is College Bowl Games. As Julian doesn't know a thing about football, he punted discussion of the sport to Brandon for Table Topics. Andy choose the word of the day of "Roll Tide" because of Alabama's national win earlier in the week. Thankfully the theme of the day also involved football - although that seemed secondary for Andy.

We had only one speaker this week. Earlier in 2012, Tim spoke to us about his New Year's resolutions. At the start of 2013, he wanted to update us on how he did and where he is going this year. His speech, from the Competent Communicator manual, was entitled M&Ms. Tim told us that our goals need to be measurable and they need to matter. Excellent advice from an excellent speech.

Tim talks about the M&Ms of resolutions.
Our Topicsmaster this week is Brandon. This is his first time to be Topicsmaster and he did an excellent job.

Brandon tells a very touching story before asking questions of the audience
Michael reveals he doesn't know much about football leagues.
